Tottenham could send loan player back to his parent club earlier than expected

Tottenham could send loan player Gedson Fernandes back to his parent club Benfica earlier than the expiration of his loan deal.

Spurs signed Fernandes in an 18-month loan deal with an option to buy for €50m when his loan contract expires next summer.

However, not only Tottenham won’t be exercising this buy option but also could cut short his loan spell, according to a report from Spanish football daily A Bola.

The 21-year-old midfielder was left out of the Europa League squad as they had to meet the quota for the number of international players on the list.

It also seems that Fernandes is towards the bottom end of Tottenham’s midfield pecking order too. So, minutes at North London could be hard to come by for the Portuguese player.

He made 12 appearances in all competition for Spurs last season. However, he is yet to feature in the Premier League this season.

It seems that it will serve well for both parties to cut Fernandes loan short and send him to his parent club in January.
