Tottenham defensive duo might not play together due to pace concerns
Tottenham fans might not see the pairing of Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier at the centre of defence at Tottenham this season.
While both the players are admired by Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho, the lack of pace with these two centre-back options is a big concern for the manager.
Football Insider reported that the Tottenham staff will be avoiding the partnership “at all costs” and only see the pairing as a “last resort”.
Mourinho has a number of options to choose from if he decides to pair one of the above centre-back with other availabe centre-back.
While Dier missed the last two games a hamstring injury sustained on International Duty, he has become the manager’s favourite after his conversion to the centre-back position.
Meanwhile, Alderweireld returned to the team against West Ham as Dier was not available for selection.
One of the major names after these two in the centre of the defense is Davinson Sanchez. Ben Davies could also play as a centre-back if needed and Spurs have last year’s breakout Japhet Tanganaga whenenver needed.
Additionally, they signed Joe Rodon from Swanseas in a £15m deal. He can also be selected to start in some matches this season.
